The core services of the 4th Oncology Clinic cover the patient’s whole journey at Metropolitan Hospital. From day-case treatment in the day unit to inpatient care, radiotherapy, the emergency department, psychological support and the pain clinic.

Day unit

The day unit is the heart of the Clinic. In a fully equipped, discreet and friendly environment centred on the cancer patient, intravenous treatments are administered with specialised nursing care, close medical supervision by the Clinic’s oncologists and physicians, and support from the team’s psychologist. The unit is directly linked to the clinical pharmacy department, where specialised clinical pharmacists prepare the drugs to international standards.

A day treatment, step by step

  1. Medical assessment

    Examination and review of your results by the oncologist before every administration.

  2. Drug preparation

    In the clinical pharmacy department, by clinical pharmacists, to international standards.

  3. Administration

    A stay of a few hours with specialised nursing care. The psychologist is available.

  4. Going home

    Instructions for the following days and scheduling of the next visit.

Inpatient care

Inpatient care takes place on the Hospital’s specialised floors, in rooms with advanced technological support and comfortable, pleasant decoration. The “Home in Hospital” concept, extending the patient’s familiar environment into the hospital wards, aims at a better and faster recovery.

Radiotherapy

At the Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Centre, specialised physicians and medical physicists trained abroad deliver established and innovative treatments with the most modern equipment, in close cooperation with our Clinic.

Emergencies

The Hospital’s fully staffed Emergency Department is on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and deals with any urgent health problem at any time.

Metropolitan Emergency Department: 210 48 09 199. If you are on treatment and develop a fever, severe weakness or any other worrying symptom, call immediately.

Psychological support

Psychological support is addressed to the patient and the family. The team’s clinical psychologist, trained abroad, is available to patients and their families every day, from the first visit and throughout treatment and follow-up.

Pain clinic

Any patient with chronic pain can turn to the pain clinic, where treatment is given according to the cause of the pain. The clinic consists of a team of specialists coordinated by an anaesthetist specialised in pain, in direct cooperation with the treating medical oncologist.
