Dr Nikolaos Spathas is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the 4th Oncology Clinic and scientific head of the Genetic Counselling and Hereditary Cancer service of Metropolitan Hospital. He trained in cancer genetics in the United States and in breast cancer at specialist centres in Europe.

Research and scientific activity

He has taken part as an investigator in numerous international interventional and non-interventional clinical trials, mainly in breast and lung cancer, and is active in translational research in cooperation with the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG). He has given many lectures and presentations at international and Greek congresses and has publications in international medical journals. In recent years he has focused on new technologies and the application of artificial intelligence in oncology, taking part in international and national studies and educational activities.

The person behind the physician

He has a particular interest in the psychological, human and social dimensions of cancer. He has attended many seminars on palliative care, quality of life and the support of patients and relatives, and has taken part in volunteer work with the Alma Zois association of women with breast cancer, the Hellenic Cancer Society and Médecins du Monde Greece.
